TARA NEWSLETTER
expected publish date: First week Sept
Sept 2002
from the pres:
Hope everyone had a GREAT SUMMER!
Let's get together and trade stories at our Sept BAR-B-Q / POT-LUCK!
Fire Season is still with us, so keep an eye out and monitor the
repeaters for any traffic you might be able to relay or provide
a land line contact for.
I've been busy learning the intricacies of communication site
planning, as I am now involved with such for Heavenly. As might be
expected with a government document, there are details required for
environmental impact, construction, planned use and growth, and technical
details for both RF and electronic use. Our original site plan for Angels Roost
( in 1976) was 6 pages long. I would guess this one will be closer to 60!
With the knowledge gained, I can insure that our TARA systems will be
well represented and continue to be a part of the area for decades to come!
Otherwise, I'm getting ready for winter. And that includes plans for TARA's
Christmas gathering! No final plans yet, so bring some ideas to the BAR-B-Q
meeting and we'll finalize our ideas for the October meeting!
73 for now, (Hmm.. Let me see, what can I cook for the pot luck??? HA!!)

Happenings:
ARE YOU READY!
TARA's annual BAR-B-Q and POT-LUCK Extravaganza
It's Time to enjoy the beautiful view and weather of lake Tahoe, courtesy of Kirby and Muriel
at their exclusive lake side recreation area! Check the BAR-B-Q Info link on the left side of the web page for details!
Repeater Systems
NR7A 147.24
The 147.24 repeater has been put in "PL" mode on a permanent basis now due to
some interference. The PL system seems to be causing some problems of its own, such as
stations cutting out when signals are otherwise good. A quick fix would be to back off your
microphone, as I believe the voice modulation is interfering with the PL decoder up
at the repeater site. IE: a repeater problem, not YOUR radio problem :)
I plan on getting to the sites the 3rd and fourth weeks of September to repair and PM the
systems for winter.
Bay Area Link
I also hope to restore the link to the bay area those weeks also. So check the web site
"systems" page for updates on the link.
Packet
Packet is going strong on 144.93, with the TARA BBS supporting a port to the International Space Station
on 145.8 MHZ. Check into the BBS and issue a J2 command at the BBS prompt
to see who's been working the ISS packet node!!
Otherwise, we're in pretty good shape for ‘ol man winter.
Ps... this winter I will add a web page for the BBS and packet use in general!
73 !
Paul
