TARA News Letter for MAY 2004
issue date: mailed - 5/1/04 web post - appx 5/5
TO BE POSTED - APPX May 5
from the pres:
Greetings my friends,
Our last two meetings have been "tough" at best. Issues from monies spent to parliamentary procedures have been more then discussed. I did not recognize some communication problems and let some issues slide when they should have been dealt
with in a more exacting and parliamentary manor. My apologies to you all for not taking care of business in a timely and professional manner.
I've also apologized to Jack and Penny for the miscommunication with regard to the T-shirt and mug orders. I was responsible for the improper canceling of the t-shirt order, and worse, for the method of communicating such. All is now as the club has voted for, and the time and effort devoted by the Shrawders will be rewarded to TARA with the unique and beautiful mugs and t-shirts we voted on.
TARA has successfully been run as a club, not as a business, in the past. Procedures and transactions were handled on a somewhat personal basis. I still believe we can operate in a similar manor with some changes that reflect the times we live in. Those changes will include an agenda of accountability and planning for the future.
In order to make these changes and provide the continuing success of TARA, some bylaw changes are in order. These will be addressed in October and November meetings
in the proper manner as demonstrated by Kirby and Murial.
My pledge to you is to provide a better-organized meeting, with topics that
reinforce the opportunities and events that TARA has come to be known for.
In other words, allow us to continue to enjoy our Amateur Radio experience
in TARA as we all have in the past.
Boy, 'nuff said there. How about the really important stuff!!!
We have some new faces in office!! John Sloane (KC7AGI) is our new VP!
And Welcome to our newest Board members, (and in some cases, that's a welcome back)
Sheila, KB7YFU, Bruce, N7CPP, and Matt, W7KJU.
Thank you all for allowing me to continue as your president, and a special thank you to the returning officers for giving of their time and energy to help me guide TARA through another year of Amateur Radio activities!
And speaking of "ACTIVITIES"..
Communication events and Field Day are fast approaching! Jack, KT6JS, is putting together a Field Day to remember. Information on all these events is available on TARA's web site, and on the Monday Night Net. BUT, the best place will be at our MAY GENERAL MEETING. Please plan on attending so we can organize our busy summer schedule with your direct input and enjoy the company of your fellow Amateur Radio operators in person.
See YA There!!

TARA Systems report, June 2004
Spring already!
The winter started out with a bang, but never really turned into a tough one as far as our radio sites are concerned.
The problems at this time:
1) 24 is still open carrier due to a PL decoding problem
a) normal daytime operation is not affected,
b) PL IS REQUIRED from 22:30 hours to 05:30 hours
2) the packet digipeater xmit is still slightly off frequency
a) strong signals to node work fine
b) distant stations will have connect and retry problems
3) The telephone line for autopatches has developed hum and noise problems
a) autopatch is still available, but noise may not allow conversation
The UHF system is on line to Mt. Vaca 24/7, and soon to be linked back to Mt. Volmer in the Berkley Hills.
I still can't promise that we will have a work party or site visit trip. Heavenly is very concerned about safety when they have construction, and this year again has some heavy construction going on near both sites. I will try and coordinate a visit, so keep in touch through the usual channels and we'll see what develops.
Enjoy the weather and the repeaters!
